World Cancer Day: 50 percent chance of survival in Gujarat

4th February is ‘World Cancer Day’. There are 20 thousand cancer patients in Surat and 80 thousand in Gujarat. In which 50 percent die. Every day 192 cancer patients are being registered in Gujarat. Cervical, breast and oral cancer account for 50 percent of the total cancer patients registered in Gujarat. More than two lakh cases were reported in three years. In which 1.11 lakh patients lost their lives.

1.27 lakh Gujaratis defeated cancer in 4 years! From 2019 to 2022, there were 2.82 lakh cancer patients in Gujarat. Out of which 55% i.e. 1.55 lakh patients died. Between 2013 and 2022, 72 lakh cancer patients lost their lives in the country. Cancer has become a silent club.

There were 5.87 lakh cancer patients among women. There were 17 thousand more female patients. 1 lakh 62 thousand 500 women had breast cancer. Of these, there were 97 thousand uterine cancer, 36 thousand ovarian cancer, 28 thousand oral cancer and 20 thousand colorectal cancer patients.

In the year 2020, 69 thousand 660 new patients were registered in Gujarat. Which is estimated to be 79 thousand 217 by the year 2025. According to the report of Ahmedabad Urban Cancer Registry, per one lakh population, 98 new cancer cases are being seen in men and 77 in women.

Of the total cases, 50 percent are patients with oral, breast and cervical cancer.

GCRI is located in the Ahmedabad Civil Medicine campus. About 20,000 new cancer cases are registered in cancer hospitals every year.
