Amit Shah and Amit Chavda face to face in health education

Ahmedabad, 29 February 2024
During Question Hour in Gujarat Assembly today, Congress Party leader Amit Chavda asked questions regarding government medical colleges and private colleges in the state. In which the reality of the health of the state came to light from the information given by the government. Later he openly challenged the claims of Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

There are only 6 government medical colleges in Gujarat, which were started before the BJP rule in 1995. BJP ruled for 30 years, there was a double engine government for 10 years, yet not a single government medical college was opened in Gujarat in these 30 years of BJP rule.

The rest are colleges run by societies and private institutions. The total number of seats at the undergraduate level is 7050, out of which only 1400 are undergraduate seats in government medical colleges. Only 19% seats are in government medical colleges and 80% seats are in society and privately run medical colleges.

The fees per year for undergraduate courses in government medical colleges is Rs. Under Congress rule, 25 thousand medical colleges were opened, if you want to become a doctor, you can easily do MBBS.

Medical colleges were opened in the name of GMRES Society with grant fee scale of Rs 3 lakh 30 thousand for government quota seats. Rs 10 lakh for management quota seats.

Thus, during the time of Congress, one has to pay Rs 25 thousand per year in government quota for graduation in medical colleges and during the BJP government, Rs 3 lakh 30 thousand has to be paid per year.

For admission in private medical colleges, a fee of Rs 15 lakh has to be paid per year. If the fees are so high then how will a poor person educate his child?

On the other hand, the government hospitals in Bhuj of Kutch, Palanpur of Banaskantha and Dahod were there for years. It had large lands, properties, infrastructure. It has been given to private companies and Rs. Fees range from Rs 3 to 15 lakh. Government houses and lands worth billions of rupees have come into their possession.

Not a single government medical college was opened in the 30 years of BJP rule. Its poly was opened. Children of Gujarat are not able to become doctors at affordable fees, hence there is a huge shortage of doctors in Gujarat and people are deprived of treatment. It is clear from this answer that the government has given permission to private institutions to loot in the name of medical colleges and higher education. Amit Chavda said this.

On February 27, 2024, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, while inaugurating the medical college of a religious institution in Kalok, had said that two and a half decades ago, there were only 9 medical colleges and 1100 seats in Gujarat. Today there are 40 medical colleges and 7 thousand medical seats.

Apart from this, Brown Field Medical Colleges have been started in 4 districts and Green Field Medical Colleges have been started in 2 districts. There is a plan to start medical colleges in 10 districts in 5 years. This will increase 1500 seats. With this, doctors will be easily available even in remote villages.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that PM Modi has increased 387 medical colleges to 706 colleges, PM Modi has done the work of increasing medical seats from 51 thousand seats to 1.07 lakh. So in 2047, there will be a queue of people seeking visa to come to India.

Amit Chavda replied on the basis of assembly details. In this way Amit Chavda has now come against Amit Shah and Bhupendra Patel.
