Cylinders, subsidies and election games.

UP elections were to be held in 2017. His Ujjwala scheme was launched but during the UP elections, a subsidy of Rs 23,464 crore was given on Ujjwala during 2017-18. Due to which cylinders reached people’s homes and the habit of cooking started changing.
The 2019 Lok Sabha election has arrived. In view of the success of the UP elections, the subsidy amount on gas cylinders has been increased. During 2018-19, the government had received a subsidy of Rs 37,209 crore. The beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme were blown away and the government also got a lot of votes. After the elections, the subsidy was reduced by 13000 crores. In 2019-20, only Rs 24,172 crore was given as subsidy while in 2020-21 the amount of subsidy was further reduced. 11,896 crores. 20,000 crore subsidy was discontinued as compared to 2018-19.
The election was over. Vote was received. work is done. Now the subsidy amount has been stopped. No subsidy given from May 2020 to May 2022. In 2021-22, the amount of subsidy remained only 245 crores. When the opposition raised the issue of inflation, the government again showed generosity and announced a subsidy of only Rs 200. Even after this, there is no relief in the price of the cylinder. Even after a subsidy of Rs 200, the cost of a cylinder of Ujjwala is Rs 853, which is double the price of 2015. The cost of a non-subsidized cylinder in Delhi is Rs 1,053.
These days the Prime Minister is giving a speech against Revdi. There is also the danger of mistaking the required subsidy as an amendment. Common people cannot fill cylinder, they are also hearing speech from above that Rewari is not good. The public is paying 40 thousand crore rupees every year as toll tax. Nitin Gadkari says that the target is to take it to 1.25 lakh crores. The government increased the excise duty on petrol and diesel from 60 to 100 percent, people bought 100 liters of petrol and diesel, now speeches are being made that raw materials should not be distributed. These people are also involved in this discussion. Firstly, we will not organize the debate ourselves, how far is the subsidy for them, how long is the election rally, a line or two will be missing from the debate.
Jasmine Nihalani and Vignesh Radhakrishnan analyzed cylinder subsidy figures in The Hindu newspaper.
