Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit Gujarat on 29 and 30 September 2022 and will inaugurate the Ahmedabad Metro Rail.
On 21 September 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the mayors in Gujarat via camera and said that the metro rail network in various cities of India was less than 250 km in 2014.
Now this has increased to over 750 km, while another 1000 km of metro rail network is under construction.
The reality is that by the time Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in the country, 650 km of urban rail was ready to start. By 2017, the 650 km long metro rail network had made India one of the top 5 countries in the world. Which happened because of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Bajpai, Morarji Desai and Indira Gandhi.
Due to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, till 2017 metro rail was running in 9 cities of the country. Work was going on in 6 cities, before Modi. Manmohan Singh had proposed to the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi to build Ahmedabad Metro Rail in Gujarat. But Modi refused to build a metro rail and chose BRTS in Ahmedabad. The BRTS project has not been successful in removing private vehicles from the road.
Till 2017 metro rail was running in 9 cities of the country, which included Kolkata in 1984, Delhi in 2002, Bengaluru in 2011, Mumbai in 2014, Chennai in 2015, Jaipur in 2015, Kochi in 2017, Lucknow in 2017 and Hyderabad in 2017. Metro had started. This project was before Modi became the Prime Minister. Which had already been prepared before Modi.
As of 10 March 2019, the country had a metro rail network of 650 km. The projects which were started by the governments before Modi. In 2017 work was going on on 900 km.
In 2017, the detailed project report of the 1000 km long project was placed before the Delhi government for approval.
In Delhi as of 2017, the Delhi Metro network from Ghaziabad to Dilshad Garden and the city center of Noida was 343 km long with 250 stations.
By 2017, a 24 km long section of the Lucknow Metro was opened.
The 30 km long metro rail project of Kanpur and Agra has been approved.
Metro in the country
Due to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the metro was running in 9 cities of the country till 2017.
In 1984, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi inaugurated the first metro in Kolkata.
Metro was running in Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai, Jaipur when Modi arrived.
When Modi came to power, metro projects were underway in Nagpur, Pune, Bhopal, Indore, Ahmedabad, Vijayawada, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Kerala and Patna.
Metro rail is running in 15 cities of India in 2022. These are Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Gurugram, Mumbai, Noida, Kochi, Lucknow, Nagpur, Kanpur and Pune. The plans were approved before Modi became the prime minister.
The country’s first metro project was started in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. The Metropolitan Transport Project was planned in the year 1971 under the master plan. There were 5 lakh passengers per day.
Metro tracks pass through the Hooghly River. This is the first metro in the country to pass through any river.
The first metro between Shahdara and Tis Hazari was started in Delhi on 25 December 2002. 4 lakh vehicles could be removed from the road. Delhi Metro runs 218 km with 235 rails with 8 coaches on five lines red, yellow, blue, green and purple. Spread over Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad in UP, Gurugram and Faridabad in Haryana. Airport Express has six stations.
9 lakh passengers travel daily on the Yellow Line and Blue Line and 3.5 lakh passengers daily on the Red Line. 70 thousand crores have been spent.
Every day 10 lakh passengers travel by Bengaluru Metro, the capital of Karnataka. Metro is known as Namma Metro. Work started in Bangalore in 2006 and on 20 October 2011 the first Metro ran between MG Road and Byappanahalli station. Presently the two metro lines of 42.30 km are Purple and Green.
Due to non-completion of work on time, the cost increased four times. 40 thousand crores have been spent. There are 14 lakh passengers.
The foundation work of Mumbai Metro started in June 2006 and the first metro train started in June 2014. 4300 crores were spent on 11.40 kms. 3.50 lakh passengers used to come daily.
The first metro in Chennai was launched in 2015 by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in 45 km. 14 thousand crores were spent. The Government of India approved in January 2009. Work started in 2011. By 2026, 11 lakh people will travel. The cost of the second rail in 2017 is 90 thousand crores.
The Kochi Metro started with 11 stations on the 13-km-long Aluva to Palarivattam route. A total of Rs 5,180 crore was spent on this 25 km project. 1 lakh passengers were traveling.
Started in June 2015 in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan with 31 stations at a cost of 3100 crores. Work started in 2010.
The metro was started in Lucknow in 2017. Akhilesh Yadav, the then Chief Minister of UP, started work on 8.5 km in 2014 at a cost of 6900 crores. 23 km of work was going on.
The 72 km long project has 66 stations. Work started in 2012 and in 2017 with 24 stations. Th started. 20 thousand crores were spent.
World’s longest metro in China
Two new metro lines of Shanghai, the world’s longest 8831 kilometer long, have started in China in 2022. Shanghai has 5 fully automated metro lines. There are 20 metro lines with 508 stations.
