Guj Govt is determined to increase green-cover

With a determination to increase forestation and green-cover in the state, Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani today chaired a high-level meeting held with forest officials in Gandhinagar.
In the meeting, the Chief Minister stated that during the Van Mahotsav (Forest Festival) over 10-crore plants would be distributed. According to a state forest report, Gujarat has 11.61 % forestation that included forest cover and tree cover, both.
Mr. Rupani instructed to the forest department that to increase the green cover it must plant double number of times trees, compared to cut trees. He also guided to setup working administration that fixes the responsibilities of the forest officials for taking care of forestation areas.
In the meeting, a detail presentation was also made about the 70 th State Level Van Mahotsav to be held at Jadeshwar in Odhav of Ahmedabad district. The presentation also included celebrations of the Van Mahotsav to be held at 33 district headquarters, 8 municipal corporations, 250 tehsil headquarters and 5020 villages.
The meeting was also graced by Forest Minister Mr. Ganpatbhai Vasava, Home Minister (State) Mr. Pradipsinh Jadeja and minister of state for forest Mr. Ramanbhai Patkar, Chief Secretary Dr. J. N. Singh, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest & Environment, Dr. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, and others.
