In Gujarat, 73 percent of the potatoes are produce of Lady Rosetta and Kufri Pukhraj varieties, 40cr  kilograms of seeds

From September to October, farmers have started preparing the sowing of potato crop. Before sowing, farmers prefer disease resistant varieties. The Central Potato Research Institute has developed potato varieties by region. Therefore, scientists have asked to cultivate potato varieties according to the 7 climatic zones of Gujarat. In 2020, 40–45cr kg of potato seeds will be imported from outside Gujarat. 30 to 35 tonnes of potatoes are harvested per hectare.

Potatoes in 25 taluka

It is used in vegetables, fenugreek, fries, flour making, kanji and wine, the textile industry. Potatoes are grown in 25 talukas in Gujarat. The taluka has Deesa, Vadgam, Dantiwada, Dhanera, Palanpur, Ladol, Vijapur, Nandol, Dahegam, Manasa, Chaklasi, Borivi, Kanjari, Chhani, Lunawada, Modasa, Prantij, Dhansura, Idar, Prantij, Jamnagar, Dwarka, Anjar.

75% cultivation of two varieties

In Gujarat, Lady Rosetta accounts for 40.50 percent and Kufri Pukhraj 33.3 percent. The most popular variety. This has been decided on the basis of survey conducted by Potato Research Institute. Kufri is also the king, Kufri Locker. 90% of these varieties are cultivated in Gujarat.

  • For Chips – 1, 2, 4 Kufri Chips are Kufri Jyoti, Atlantic.
  • For French Fry: Kufri Chandramukhi, Kufri Surya, Kufri Chipsona-1, Kufri Fry Gold.
  • For processing: Kufri Chipsona-1, Kufri Chipsona-2, Kufri Chipsona-3, Kufri Chandramukhi, Kufri Locker, Kufri Jyoti, Kufri Atlantic.
  • For Kachichara: Kufri is Pukhraj, Kufri is Ashok, Kufri is Satluj, Kufri is fame.
  • For storage by agglomeration method: Kukri Badshah, Kufri Jawahar, Kufri Bahar, Fukri Sutlej, Kufri Pushkar.

Scientists at the main potato research center at Deesa of Sardaranagar Dantiwada Agricultural University have said that do not use potato seeds grown in Gujarat. 2500 to 3000 kg of seeds are sown in one hectare. 3500 to 4000 kg are used in four rows.
