Modi built the Ahmedabad metro by taking loan from Japan

Ahmedabad, 30 September 2022

In November 2015, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) announced funding of Rs 5968 crore for the first phase. In the year 2016, an amount of Rs 4456 crore was given by Japan. The Central Government has approved a grant of Rs 5384 crore in February 2019. The total project will be up to Rs 30 thousand crore. The construction of the metro has been done with a loan from Japan.

On October 19, 2014, the Central Government approved a grant of Rs.11 thousand crore for the first phase. On 14 March 2015, former Chief Minister Anandiben Patel laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the Metro and on 17 January 2016 the North-South Corridor.

Modi’s big mistake

Narendra Modi and BJP have been using the metro rail project for many years for their own interests and to stay in the limelight during elections by taking loans from Japan. Metro Rail is running late by 15 years. When Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asked Modi for the Metro, he was refused.

Family and land

A total of 554 families of Ahmedabad have been affected by the metro rail. 450 families have been given EWS housing and 104 families have been given compensation. The Urban Development Department has spent Rs 45.08 crore for these families. 93 hectares of land is required. Out of which 87 hectares belong to Zilla Panchayat, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Govt. About 5 hectares of land was in private ownership.

Bridge over river

This train passes through old buildings, roads etc. of Ahmedabad. A pool on the river which is not there in any other metro train has also been built for this train.

In the first phase, the work has been done at a cost of Rs 12,925 crore. The project comprises a total of 96 railway coaches, 129 lifts, 161 escalators and 126 entry and exit points.

Gandhinagar Rail

22.8 km from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir Marg has 20 stations. Whereas the Gujarat National Law University to GIFT City will have a 5.4 km route with two stations. The entire route of 28.26 km will be elevated. The phase will have two corridors which will include a 22.8 km route with 20 stations from Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir and a 5.4 km route from Gujarat National Law University to GIFT City.

Except Ahmedabad

With this, Ahmedabad will become the fifteenth city in the country to have metro service. The country’s last metro train started in Jaipur. Also according to Urban Transport News (data as of 29 December 2021), which provides basic information on urban transport,

Metro trains are running in Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Gurugram and Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Noida, Pune and Kanpur.

Apart from this, there are plans to run metro trains in Agra, Bhopal, Dholera, Indore, Meerut, Navi Mumbai, Patna and Surat. A cool metro route of 40.3 km will be built in Surat, out of which 21.8 km is under construction. Whereas a 100 km route is proposed in Dholera.

The longest metro route in the country is Delhi Metro with a length of 451.5 km, of which 348.12 km is operational.

Scam

Former IAS officer and working chairman of Metro project Sanjay Gupta and 7 officers committed a land scam of Rs 113 crore in 2012. He was also arrested. In another case, 603 tonnes of TMT steel worth Rs 2.62 crore was also missing. Also, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India had announced a fraudulent expenditure of Rs 373,62 crore for the construction of a structure in an unapproved campus. But the metro train is not ready to spend on those routes, which are troubling the public.

Even before the DPR was approved by the High Powered Committee, the Mega Company (MEGA) had started issuing work orders and procurement at high cost without due process. 1,868 work orders worth Rs 584 crore (June 2011 to September 2013) and 672 work orders worth Rs 201 crore were issued without approval. 1196 work orders worth Rs 383 crore were issued before the Central and State Governments approved the project.

TREE CUT

5840 trees were cut for the metro project in the city in nine years. 700 trees were cut for BRTS.
