Probe ordered into properties of 13 police brokers

PIs, ACPs, DCPs and senior officers of all police stations in Ahmedabad appoint brokers – administrators to collect money from liquor and gambling den owners and carry out any illegal work.

An administrator, manager working to investigate corruption of police officers has been transferred. 13 administrators of Ahmedabad police station have been transferred in place of 200 criminals, ACPs and other senior officers.

The transfers were made after a joint investigation following complaints in Ahmedabad by the DGP and Police Commissioner. The state police chief ordered a probe by the state inspection team into the properties of administrators and their families. This is the first time such an incident has happened in the state.

Collusion
The DGP and Police Commissioner had received complaints that head constables and constables were engaging in impersonation activities for or in the name of police inspectors, ACPs or DCP level officers in their own and outside police stations. The administrators were found to be in collusion.

In one or two cases, cases of liquor smuggling, other illegal activities and embezzlement of lakhs of rupees were exposed. Therefore, the DGP ordered the transfer of 13 administrators to other districts. Being government employees, the administrators prepared to go to the High Court.

9 years ago, the then police commissioner of Ahmedabad, Shivanand Jha, transferred 118 administrators to various police stations. All the administrators were assigned the most important responsibility of crime as well as accountant chief in each police station. Due to which the horizontal income of the administrators has stopped.

There are 39 police stations in Ahmedabad city. There are a total of 33 police stations in Surat city. There are 21 police stations in Vadodara. There are 12 police stations in Rajkot. There are 9 police stations in Bhavnagar city. Such arrangements are mostly organized in 125 police stations of 8 metropolitan cities.
