Rs.23,889-cr disbursed to 1.34-crore poor in 10 years in Gujarat

Rs.23,889-cr disbursed to 1.34-crore beneficiaries in 1,491 fairs so far during the previous 10 editions of Garib Kalyan Mela initiated in 2009

Nearly Rs.2,307-crore assistive kits will be handed over directly to 11.83-lakh poor beneficiaries in 39 fairs, through transparent means, with a view to eliminate middlemen, to be held at different municipal corporations, municipalities, taluka and prant places in all the 33 districts during the next three days.

The assistance up to Rs.20,000 aimed at making the poor self-reliant will be in the form of sewing machine, kits for certificate holder masons, plumbers and welders, cottage industry kits up to Rs.47,000 to mainly Sakhi Mandal (women’s self-help groups), besides cooking gas connections and 5-litre stainless steel pressure cooker s added this year.

About 23,889.62-cr has been distributed to 1.34-crore poor beneficiaries in 1,491 such fairs during the previous ten years, it being started in 2009 by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The beneficiaries included 13.92-lakh scheduled castes and 34.59-lakh tribal, women comprising 62.55-lakh.
