Amit Shah as Minister of State for Home of Gujarat
Shah has been successful as an organizational leader, having served as Home Minister in the Government of Gujarat. So he has experience in both organization and government.
It is believed that Amit Shah’s contribution is important in expanding the scope of BJP, whether it is the 2014 elections or the 2019 elections.
Amit Shah is the one under whose leadership BJP won 303 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and NDA won 352 seats.
BJP’s victory in both the Lok Sabha elections has made Amit Shah the most successful president of the BJP.
Earlier, during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Shah had given 71 out of 80 seats to the BJP in UP.
Shah has so far stayed away from government posts and has been working to strengthen the organization. But now he will contribute to the government by keeping the accounts of the Central House.
Even before this he has handled the Home Ministry of Gujarat, so he has experience of being in government and ruling.
However, BBC Gujarati spoke to senior journalist Raj Goswami about Amit Shah’s tenure as Minister of State for Home in Gujarat.
In a conversation with BBC Gujarati, Goswami said, “He was a perfect fit as the Home Minister of Gujarat. Because as a home minister your responsibility is to maintain peace in the entire state where Shah landed.
Goswami also said that he personally faced many allegations and controversies during his tenure.
Amit Shah served as a minister in the Government of Gujarat from 2002 to 2010.
Talking about Amit Shah’s background as Home Minister in Gujarat, Hari Desai also says that his tenure was average.
Desai says, “The responsibility of the Minister of State for Home is huge. It is natural to have good and bad experiences.
According to political analysts, Shah is an excellent manager.
Shah’s organizational skills are reflected in the way the BJP workers display the discipline of the soldiers.
Working in a very disciplined manner, these workers have been trained and groomed by Amit Shah himself.
For decades, they have been emphasizing on booth management.
On the decision to hand over the Home Ministry to Amit Shah in the 2019 government, Goswami says, “Two challenges are more important in any country, one internal and the other external.”
Elaborating further, Goswami said that as a Home Minister, you should be smart and have the ability to take quick decisions that Amit Shah fits in.
In the context of the 2019 cabinet, Hari Desai says that the election of Amit Shah is correct.
Desai says, “Amit Shah is right in two respects, one is that he has been constitutionally elected, so it is natural for him to get the ministry.”
“Secondly, because Shah is Modi’s No. 2, he has been given this account.”
Amit Shah’s past has been full of ups and downs and controversies.
He was also accused of false encounters when he was Minister of State for Home of Gujarat.
Commenting on this, senior journalist Dilip Patel says, “When he was Minister of State for Home in Gujarat, he used to select loyal officers in his portfolio instead of merit.”
He further said, “He will be the first Minister of State for Home of India who will be dismissed from his own state which was a great shame for the whole country.”
According to Patel, Amit Shah never forgives his political enemies.
Whatever happened in the encounters did not happen on the instructions of Narendra Modi but on the instructions of Amit Shah. BJP and Congress leaders have publicly admitted that their phones are being tapped.
From 2002 to 2006, the Gujarat Police was accused of illegally killing 31 people.
In these encounter cases, 32 police officers including 6 IPS officers and former home minister of Gujarat state Amit Shah were arrested and sent to jail.
On 25 July 2010, CBI arrested Amit Shah in the encounter case. He had to go to jail in the case of fake encounter between Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi.
For some time political pundits felt that this would end their political journey.
On 29 October 2010, the Gujarat High Court granted bail to Amit Shah on a surety of Rs 1 lakh.
The CBI had charged Amit Shah with murder, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy. But he was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
However, after his release from jail, he went up one step after the other in the party.
What will be Amit Shah’s strategy as Minister of State for Home and BJP President and now as Union Home Minister of Gujarat?
Talking about this, Dilip Patel says that Amit Shah likes to keep the Home Ministry and the cooperative structure in his pocket.
“Shah’s first task will be to implement Gujarat’s strategy across India and silence Modi, the BJP and their opponents,” he says.
Shah was born on 22 October 1964
Born in a Mumbai merchant family.
At the age of 14, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh as ‘Tarun Swayamsevak’ in Gandhinagar district.
He was introduced to politics at an early age. Perhaps this is the reason why Amit Shah is now considered the master of strategy making.
When Amit Shah came to Ahmedabad for college, he joined the ABVP, the student wing of the BJP.
In 1982, Amit Shah, who was studying bio-chemistry, was made a minister in the Ahmedabad ABVP.
Later he became a minister in Ahmedabad city BJP organization.
His political career began as a BJP candidate during the 1995 assembly elections.
He was elected MLA for the first time from Sarkhej assembly constituency.
After that he has been contesting many elections in Gujarat one after the other and has been winning in each one.
He was made the National Treasurer of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in 1997. Later he was given the responsibility of Vice President in Gujarat BJP.
Not only this, be it the state cooperative sector elections, the Gujarat Cricket Association elections or the most spectacular club elections, Amit Shah has been winning organizational elections one after the other and taking control of them on behalf of the party.
In the year 2002, he was given the charge of Minister of State for Home, Gujarat.
Shah emerged as a trusted ally of Narendra Modi and took over the reins of the entire BJP.
He has developed a strategy to use the personal popularity of Narendra Modi to win party elections anywhere in the country.
However, political contestants keep reminding the BJP that criminal cases were also registered against Amit Shah.
