The violent agitation by students at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on issues like NEET paper leak and student suicide affected about 70 places in Gujarat.
NEET exam was held across the country on 3 May 2026, but due to paper leak it was canceled on 12 May 2026. The exam was re-conducted on June 21, 2026. Its final result was declared on 16 July 2026.
According to the official data released by the National Testing Agency, there were 79,190 candidates from Gujarat for the NEET-UG 2026 exam. 68,833 candidates appeared in the exam and 38,146 candidates qualified for admission to medical and allied courses.
The paper of this country’s biggest exam for medical admission was leaked on a large scale as “gas paper”. After this serious scandal, the National Examination Agency decided to cancel the exam and conduct NEET again.
Gujarati actress also joined the movement, Delhi’s fire over NEET paper leak reached Gujarat, Gujarati actress Jigna Vyas also joined the movement in Ahmedabad, the actress was detained by the police.
Large scale demonstrations and protests took place in different cities and large areas of Gujarat. Student organizations, youth and political activists showed their anger mainly in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.
Ahmedabad
In the evening, Gujarat University and L.D. Suddenly a large number of students gathered in the area including the engineering college. They protested with posters and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. A student movement was seen which had never happened before and was very strategic.
Instead of arriving at the protest in large numbers, students divided into small groups and took different roads to reach the streets around the university.
All nearby roads were blocked and nearby shops were closed in the protest which lasted from 5 pm to 8 pm. The gates of the university were closed. The area was converted into a police camp. 205 students were detained.
The students who were taken to the Gujarat University police station kept their placards with them and continued singing songs and raising slogans inside the campus.
After police cleared the main protest site, sporadic protests continued.
Congress
Congress workers took to the streets in the afternoon and students were protesting outside Gujarat University in the evening. At around 2 pm, dozens of Congress workers, including state party chief Amit Chavda, were detained as the union demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
80 protesters were detained from the Congress office in Paldi and about 125 protesters from the Gujarat University protest site.
Surat
Effigy of Narendra Modi was burnt in Surat. Along with this, the effigy of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was set on fire.
In Surat, students gathered outside the collector office at Eighth Gate and near Daksheshwar Temple in Pandesara and showed their anger by burning effigies. This protest in Surat

A large number of students sat on strike near the statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar near Mandarwaja.
A large number of youth gathered in Vesu and Pandesara areas, while the next day, protestors showed their anger by burning effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Pradhan near Daksheshwar Temple in Pandesara.
A case was also registered against 7 protestors.
The protestors marching towards the Collector’s office were immediately taken into custody.
Bharuch
Bharuch Collector Office gave a petition and raised questions on the examination system of National Testing Agency (NTA).
Navsari
Big demonstrations took place in Navsari. Slogans were raised to stop tampering with the future of students.
valsad
A peaceful protest march was carried out in Valsad carrying placards and banners.
Vadodara
In Vadodara, students pursue M.S. A rally was taken out from the Arts Faculty of the University to the Dean Hall and demanded improvement in education.
Rajkot
Youth protested in Rajkot, where heated clashes broke out between police and protesters. The protesters marched towards the Collector office and displayed banners demanding the resignation of the Education Minister. During the rally, a heated argument broke out between the police deployed to maintain law and order and the students, and some activists were detained.
Junagadh
The atmosphere of protest in Junagadh was very sad. Here, political parties and student wings took to the streets and raised slogans against the alleged police action on the protesters. He expressed his anger against the central government. Common citizens and parents also demanded improvements in the education system.
Bhavnagar
In Bhavnagar, students protested wearing T-shirts in support of ‘CJP’ (Cockroach Janata Party) and Sonam Wangchuk. The protesters held copies of the Constitution and placards and raised anti-government slogans.
jamnagar
Students and opposition organizations in Jamnagar demanded a fair investigation into the NEET scam and strict action against the culprits.

Blocked roads in Vav-Tharad and raised anti-government slogans. Police detained many people including former MLA Gulab Singh Rajput.
Bavla
Violent protests also took place in Bavla of Ahmedabad district. In thisA large number of local villagers, youth and leaders gathered on the Main Four Road of Bavla in protest.
