Gujarat’s GST revenue falls in November elections

When there is an election in Gujarat, the GST revenue has decreased by 2 percent instead of increasing by 16 percent like in Maharashtra. Thus Gujarat’s income has actually decreased by 18 to 20 percent in GST. Questions are being asked as to why the earnings in the elections have decreased. Maharashtra gives good income in the country. But the Gujarat government has failed to get the revenue.

9,569 crore revenue in November 2021 in Gujarat. Whereas in November 2022 it has become Rs 9,333 crore. Thus there is a decrease of 2%. Actually, there should have been an increase of 20 per cent in that revenue. 11 thousand crores should have been done with this. But the government of BJP Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has failed to increase the revenue of Gujarat. But Gujarati election issue has not been made about this.

In the country, Revenues from import of goods 20% higher and revenues from domestic transaction (including import of services) 8% higher than the same month last year.

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of November 2022 is ₹1,45,867 crore of which CGST is ₹25,681 crore, SGST is ₹32,651 crore, IGST is ₹77,103 crore (including ₹38,635 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess is ₹10,433 crore (including ₹817 crore collected on import of goods)

The government has settled ₹33,997 crore to CGST and ₹28,538 crore to SGST from IGST as regular settlement. The total revenue of Centre and the States after regular settlements in the month of November 2022 is ₹59678 crore for CGST and ₹61189 crore for the SGST. In addition, Centre had also released ₹17,000 crore as GST compensation to States/UTs in November 2022.

The revenues for the month of November 2022 are 11% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year, which itself was Rs. 1.31,526 crore. During the month, revenues from import of goods was 20% higher and the revenues from domestic transaction (including import of services) are 8% higher than the revenues from these sources during the same month last year.

The GST revenue of Service and Goods Tax reached Rs 1 lakh 51 thousand 718 crore in the month of October.

Earlier in the month of April, the GST revenue was more than 1.5 lakh crore. Rs 26 thousand 39 crore was earned from CGST, Rs 33 thousand 396 crore from SGST and Rs 81 thousand 778 crore from IGST. This includes Rs 37 thousand 297 crore received on imports. Apart from this, Cess i.e. Gratuity income was Rs 10 thousand 505 crore. This included Rs 825 crore received on import of goods.

The Central Government offset Rs 37,626 crore of CGST and Rs 32,883 crore of SGST from IGST as regular settlement. Apart from this, Rs 22,000 crore was compensated on an ad-hoc basis in the ratio of 50-50 between the Center and the states. The total revenue of the Center and the States after regular and ad-hoc settlement in the month of October was Rs 74 thousand 665 crore for CGST and Rs 77 thousand 279 crore for SGST.

GST collection crossed Rs 1.30 lakh crore mark for the 5th time

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of February 2022 is Rs 1,33,026 crore of which CGST is Rs 24,435 crore, SGST is Rs 30,779 crore, IGST is Rs 67,471crore (including Rs 33,837 crore collected on import of goods) and cess is Rs 10,340 crore (including Rs 638 crore collected on import of goods).

The government has settled Rs 26,347 crore to CGST and Rs 21,909 crore to SGST from IGST. The total revenue of Centre and the States in the month of February 2022 after regular settlement is Rs 50,782 crore for CGST and Rs 52,688 crore for the SGST.

The revenues for the month of February 2022 are 18% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year and 26% higher than the GST revenues in February 2020. During the month, revenues from import of goods was 38% higher and the revenues from domestic transaction (including import of services) are 12% higher than the revenues from these sources during the same month last year.

February, being a 28-day month, normally witnesses revenues lower than that in January. This high growth during February 2022 should also be seen in the context of partial lockdowns, weekend and night curfews and various restrictions that were put in place by various States due to the omicron wave, which peaked around 20th January.

This is for the fifth time GST collection has crossed Rs 1.30 lakh crore mark. Since implementation of GST, for the first time, GST cess collection crossed Rs 10,000 crore mark, which signifies recovery of certain key sectors, especially, automobile sales.
