15 lakh people die in India due to air pollution, 3 lakh people die in Gujarat due to pollution, the dead are not even known

Around 4.9 million people worldwide died in 2017 due to air pollution. Air pollution alone accounts for 7.7 percent of all deaths worldwide. According to a State of Global Air 2020 report released by the US-based Institute of Health Effects and the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation, a large number of people in India die prematurely due to air pollution.

Air pollution in India has reduced the life expectancy of people by an average of 2.6 years. The report also said that outdoor air pollution in India has reduced the average age of people by 18 months. And the average age has dropped by 14 months due to domestic pollution. This drop is much higher than the global average age of 20 months.

According to the State Global Air-2020 report released by the US-based Institute of Health Effects (HII) and the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), a large number of people die prematurely due to air pollution in India. Air pollution in India has reduced the life expectancy of people by an average of 2.6 years, the report said. In India, the average age of people has decreased by 18 months due to outdoor air pollution and the average age has decreased by 14 months due to domestic pollution. This drop is much higher than the global average age of 20 months.

In 2017, about 1.2 million people died due to air pollution in India. More than 1.5 million people are estimated to have died independently in 2019. These deaths are due to mixed causes of ozone pollution other than outdoor and domestic air pollution. Out of 12 lakh deaths, 6.73 lakh deaths were due to outdoor air pollution and 4.81 lakh deaths were due to indoor air pollution.

Diseases caused by air pollution in India are spreading rapidly. Everyone is a little sick today, which is a big cause of air pollution. Air pollution causes heart attacks, lung diseases, cancer, diabetes, respiratory diseases. According to health reports, 50 per cent of deaths due to air pollution are due to lung and 33 per cent to lung cancer, 22 per cent to diabetes, 10 per cent to heart attack and 22 per cent to other cardiovascular diseases. For the first time in the study, air pollution has been linked to type-2 diabetes. It has become an epidemic in India.
