Manoj Bhingare, a disabled painter from Surat, has established himself on the strength of strong will, hard work, struggle and dedication. Despite not having both hands, when Manoj Bhingare makes beautiful pictures on blank paper with his mouth and toes, the onlookers are stunned. Pictures can be made easily using his feet and mouth.

He was a simple person in his childhood, but an accident changed his life. In April 1994, when Manoj was ten years old, a bus overturned near Vani village in Maharashtra. In the accident, his hand was cut off and he suffered a serious head injury. When he came to Surat from Nashik and started his treatment at the civil hospital here, the doctors said that his other hand had also become infected and hence that hand would also have to be amputated.

Manoj, who lives in Dindoli area of Surat, originally hails from Jalgaon district of Maharashtra. He was born in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. Manoj, the only child of father Gopalbhai and mother Shobhabhen Bhingare, runs an art studio. He also conducts painting classes and supports the family financially.

Manoj has made about 2200 paintings and has received 16 awards including gold medal, bronze medal, National Balshree Award.

He plays carrom, also uses mobile, is self-reliant. But the only difference is that he does all this work on foot.

Manoj created a different identity for himself by struggling throughout his life and not losing courage even in adverse circumstances. However, Manoj’s passion for life is very strong. Due to not having hands, he also faced difficulty in getting admission in school colleges.

Ahmedabad
Manoj was studying in a government Marathi school, but after the accident, there was a big change in his life. In 1995, when Apang Manav Mandal Sanstha reached Ahmedabad to take admission, he was refused admission. To stay in the hostel, one must do his own work and at that time I was not able to do my own work.

It was shown that despite not having both hands, he takes painting classes. You can do all the work even without hands, start doing all the work yourself.

He started practicing keeping the book, taking it out of the bag, turning the pages of the book and eating himself. At first he could not even hold a spoon. However, he learned to do his work himself in eight months. Then he went to the same institute again for admission and got admission.

Manojbhai studied from class 6 to 10 in Apang Manavseva Mandal. Here he also participated in many competitions including painting, sports, music, speech competition. Meanwhile, he got selected in a competition held in Delhi and this proved to be the biggest turning point of his life.

He received the Balshree Award in this competition held in 1999. He decided that now I will become a painter and make my career in this. After this award, many social organizations of Ahmedabad honored him.

But even after getting the award, his struggle to study further continued.

Fine Arts

After passing 12th class in 2003, he again faced rejection for taking admission in Fine Arts. Failing to get admission in college, he started learning painting for a year at Apgal Manav Mandal. After taking training, he once again reached for admission in Fine Arts College but again the same jury refused him admission.

If I could not study like a normal student, you would not have given me admission. Then I started going to a Fine Arts College and after a week they saw my painting and admitted me to the college and I got a bachelor’s degree.

Wife Bhavana supports him like a hand in every moment of life. Bhavna is physically very healthy and has studied till 10th. People often ask her why she married Manoj. People may find faults in Manoj but she does not find any faults.

Manoj did not lose courage in the struggles and troubles of life. Today he has created a different identity for himself on the basis of self-confidence.

Manoj is also a member of the Switzerland-based Mouth and Food Painting Association. He also gets orders for live performances, workshops from different cities of the country and the world. He has done workshops and exhibitions in countries like Qatar, Dubai, Singapore.

Manoj never lost courage and kept working hard and succeeded. People who spoke stopped there and this boy made a name for himself. No matter how many difficulties a person has to face in life, but the person who never gives up in life definitely gets success in life. A living example of this is Manoj Bhingare of Surat.

I became depressed, I was thinking what will happen to my life now, but I was motivated by my parents and Gurus to keep my mind strong and move forward with my feet. (Translated from Gujarati, there is a possibility of language error)
