Ahmedabad girl discovered bacteria while purifying polluted water

Ahmedabad, July 20, 2024

PhD from Gujarat University. After five years of research, Kari Devangi Shukla has found a solution to clean bad water from contaminated water. In which more than 70 percent of the water can be purified. Bacteria from contaminated water were mixed in polluted water and the polluted water was purified.

160 different types of bacteria were discovered in 8 months. Out of which 12 bacteria were isolated which could give good results, after one and a half years the nature of these bacteria was revealed.

Out of 12 bacteria, 3 groups of 4-4 bacteria were formed. Named D-1, D-2, D-3. Among these three groups, the results of D-1 were the most positive. The amount of water purification was found to be 95% in D-1, 85% in D-2, 75% in D-3.

By bioremediation method water can be treated at low cost and can be used for non-potable purposes. It takes about one and a half to two hours to purify industrial water.

Bacteria are produced from the contaminated water collected in the tank and released back into the water.

In 2015, the Department of Life Sciences of Gujarat University started research on ‘Management of Gujarat’s industrial wastewater through bioremediation’.

By bioremediation method water can be treated at low cost and can be used for non-potable purposes.

For this research he also received financial support under fellowship from Gujarat Pollution Control Board.

The water from textile and common wastewater treatment plant contains heavy metals as well as deadly chemicals. The dangerous elements have been successfully removed through bacteria.
