Amul’s Anand is not No. 1 in milk production, No. 1 in egg production
(Dilip Patel)
Gujarat produces 15900 million kg of milk in 2020-21 at 15.90 million tonnes.
Due to Amul Dairy, there is a perception in the world that Anand district is first in milk production. But it is not. Anand occupies the fourth place in milk production. 8.09 million tonnes of milk is produced. At number one is Banaskantha which produces 268.2 million tonnes of milk. Mehsana is second and Sabarkantha is at number three. Kheda is at number 5. Rajkot ranks 8th out of 33 districts after Kutch.
In Gujarat, 200 crore eggs are laid in an egg factory and 100 crore eggs in a domestic chicken. The number one egg factory in Anand produces 84 crore eggs. The second is Bhavnagar where 300 million eggs are produced in the factory. The biggest influence of Jainism in Bhavnagar is in Palitana. Yet Bhavnagar does not believe in non-violence. Ahmedabad ranks third with 12 crore eggs. Valsad comes at number four.
