Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal Secular (JDS) supremo HD Deve Gowda may return to Parliament. Karnataka is ready to support Deve Gowda to prevent BJP from getting additional seats from Karnataka in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

The Congress is gearing up to win a seat in the state and on the basis of this it has announced to field its veteran leader Mallikarjun Khadga. Khadge lost the last Lok Sabha elections. Even after sending Kharag to the upper house of Parliament, the Congress will get 14 votes. Party sources say it will be used to stop the BJP. In his view, an acceptable candidate or Deve Gowda could be the best option for a possible alliance with the JDS.

Informal talks are underway between the two sides. The Congress and the JDS have enough votes to send a non-BJP candidate to the Rajya Sabha.
