The body of Mohan Sanjibhai Delkar, an independent MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was found in a hotel on Marine Drive in Mumbai on Monday.
Mohanbhai Delkar, 58, has been a seven-time Lok Sabha MP.
He was a very famous leader in the tribal society of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He was also the President of Tribal Development Organization, Dadra and Nagar Haveli since 1985.

Mohan Delkar’s father Sanjibhai Roopjibhai Delkar played a part in the independence of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, which the Portuguese ruled for 200 years. He was the MP of the area for two terms from 1961. He became the first Lok Sabha MP from the region. Father Sanjibhai Delkar also played an important role in raising the voice of local tribals in Parliament.
He started his public life in 1986-87 by forming a local labor union and becoming its president. It had a good impact on the tribal belt of South Gujarat.
He first won the Lok Sabha election in 1989 as an independent candidate. Then elected 5 consecutive times. He was elected from the Congress party during the tenure of the 10th Lok Sabha.

During the 14th Lok Sabha, he founded his political party, the Bharatiya Navashakti Party, and returned to Parliament in 2004 as an MP.
In 2009 and 2014, he lost to BJP candidate Natubhai Patel as Congress candidate.
He was elected as an independent candidate for the seventh time in 2019. In 2019, the BJP-led coalition supported the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
