“I am River not a Dump Yard. Who will talk to me? Who will listen to me? Who will care for me?” Who wants to care for me? – Daman Ganga River, South Gujarat (Rohit Prajapati)
We have informed the concerned authorities repeatedly that the stretch of the Daman Ganga River along Vapi Industrial Cluster, is polluted 24 x 7 due to “Treated Effluent” of Vapi Industrial Cluster.
Our video, taken today (30.06.2020, 12.30 pm), at Daman Ganga effluent discharge point clearly reveals the disastrous condition of the Daman Ganga River in its downstream.
Actually, we should not allow at all any discharge of even so-called treated effluent and sewerage into the river stretch where river does not have adequate water (E-flow). Discharging effluents in the river amounts to murdering the River and it is a criminal offence on the part of the concerned industries, authorities, Government of Gujarat, and State of Gujarat.
Pushing snooze button won’t work, said Rohit Prajapati, Vadodara, Gujarat.
The Ganges of the West, Daman Ganga, is paying the price for the development of Gujarat.
For three to six decades, Vapi’s industries are filled with garbage sewer. Fishermen’s livelihood is in danger. Now hunting in the sea has to go far because the fish are not found nearby. Vapi city of Gujarat is one of the most polluted cities in the country, waste suppression has made the Ganges water poisonous. The water along the coastline looks dark black. Animals and fish are over 25 km from the beach.
Groundwater has become polluted. The Central Pollution Control Board has once again raised concerns over the pollution of Daman Ganga. BJP leaders do not see any effect. Have to drink mineral water.
At number two is the city of Vapi, the bio-oxygen demand called ‘BOD’. The safe dose of BOD is considered to be 3 mg per liter or below. The VOD level is 15.1 mg per liter. 37 mg found in Nani Daman. It is dangerous for life.
