Purchase of electric vehicles increasing in Gujarat. Bhupendra Patel’s government claims that the number of electric vehicles in Gujarat has increased by 1475 percent. But in fact there has been a 160 per cent increase in e-vehicles in one year. Which is very less compared to the country and top 10 states.
On July 14, 2022, there were 13 lakh 34 thousand e-vehicles in the country. In which Gujarat had 45,272 e vehicles. Which has now become 1 lakh 18 thousand. Which shows an increase of 160 percent. There were 1 lakh 56 thousand in Delhi. 1 lakh 20 thousand in Karnataka, 81 thousand in Rajasthan, 3 lakh 37 thousand in Uttar Pradesh. Among 33 states, Gujarat ranked last.
Now in 2 years the number of registered EVs has gone up to 1,18,086. Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Jamnagar registered the maximum number of EVs.
After the implementation of the E-Vehicle Policy in Gujarat, there has been a tremendous jump of 1475 percent in the registration of EVs. The number of registered electric vehicles in the state today has gone up to 1,18,086 as against only 7240 earlier.
In the last five months, 8,858 electric vehicles have been registered every month. Surat registered the maximum number of electric vehicles in Gujarat at 31,561. After that 20,937 EVs were registered in Ahmedabad, 7,648 in Vadodara, 6,678 in Rajkot and 3,259 in Jamnagar.
Of the total 1,18,086 e-vehicles registered in Gujarat, 1,06,341 are two wheelers, 4039 three wheelers and 5646 four wheelers and the remaining 2006 are electric vehicles of other categories.
EV charging stations are being built rapidly in different cities of Gujarat. Presently there are a total of 152 charging stations in the state. 250 new public charging stations will be built in the near future.
Zones/hotspots have been designed in conjunction with BISAG-N to facilitate the charging station site selection process. Accordingly, 91 hotspots have been selected in Municipal Corporation area, 48 in Municipal area, 96 hotspots on State Highway/National Highway and 15 hotspots at tourist places.
A maximum subsidy of Rs 20,000 is given on two wheelers, Rs 50,000 on three wheelers and Rs 1,50,000 on four wheelers. The subsidy amounting to Rs 133.83 crore has been paid by the state government so far. The policy will be applicable for a period of four years, under which a total of two lakh electric vehicles will be subsidized.
250 new public charging stations are to be built in Gujarat.
On 1 July 2022, 479 charging stations were set up by the central government. Not a single one of which was approved by the Modi government in Gujarat.
The central government had given permission to build a total of 2877 charging stations in the country. 50 were established. Out of which 281 were approved. Which was number four in the country.

Charging stations were approved on the highways, but since there are very few charging stations on the highways of Gujarat, the Modi government has given a big blow to Gujarat.

Only 87 retail charging outlets were approved in Gujarat. There were 1536 in the whole country. In comparison, it was barely 5 per cent in Gujarat.
India
As of July 19, 2022, 13 lakh electric vehicles were in use in India. A total of 13,34,385 electric vehicles and 27,81,69,631 non-electric vehicles are in use in India.
Rs 25,938 crore was allocated under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electric vehicles, automobiles and auto components. GST on electric vehicles reduced from 12% to 5%. GST on electric vehicle chargers or charging stations has been reduced from 18% to 5%.
Battery operated vehicles are exempt from green license plate and permit requirements.
MoRTH has issued a notification advising states to waive road tax on EVs, which will help reduce the initial cost of EVs.
EV sales in India are set to reach 1.17 million units in FY2023. 100,000 for six consecutive months.
EV industry registered 155% annual growth. Over 720,000 two-wheelers and around 400,000 three-wheelers were sold. Compared to FY 2022, the demand for electric cars has increased by 125%.
Crossed the million-unit milestone in 12 months. According to vehicle data, sales till March 31, 2023 stood at 11,71,944 units.
In 2022, the total EV sales in India are expected to be 10,23,735 units.
11,71,944 units for FY2023 as compared to 458,746 units for FY2022 representing a strong growth of 155% YoY.
Sales hit a new one-month high in March 2023.
Combined two-wheeler and three-wheeler EV sales comprise 95% of the record EV industry sales.
Ola acquired 21% stake.
