7.5 lakh vehicles to be production when Suzuki Motor’s third unit of Gujarat plant starts production

Leading Japanese auto company Suzuki Motor Corporation, its 100 percent subsidiary Suzuki Motor Gurret Private Limited (SMG), has commenced production at the third unit of its manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad. Maruti Suzuki India has given this information on Friday.

The company said in a regulatory filing that construction of the plant has been completed and production has commenced from April 2021. Plant-C has an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles and with this commencing production, SMG together with Plant-A and Plant-B will have a total production capacity of 7.5 lakh vehicles per year.

In a regulatory filing, the company said that with a production capacity of 1.5 million units of Maruti Suzuki India, the total annual production capacity of automobiles in India will reach 22.5 lakh units. All vehicles to be manufactured at the Gujarat Status plant will be supplied to Maruti Suzuki India.

The Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant was set up in March 2014 by the Japanese Suzuki Motor Corporation, which aims to increase production capacity to ensure growth in the automobile market in India as well as to expand exports from the country. Plant-A of the Gujarat Situation Project commenced operations in February 2017, while Plant-B and powertrain plant operations commenced in January 2019.
