Adani’s railway line or slaughterhouse?

Another movement against Adani in Kutch

Kutch, October 18, 2026
‘Azad Hind Fauj’ and the Maldhari (animal herder) community say that animals are dying every day on Adani’s railway line. He alleges that Adani is not running a railway line but a slaughterhouse.

Maldharis from the area from Goiras to Adipur in Kutch gathered at a railway crossing and held an important meeting. They plan to demand compensation for the death of their cattle.

For the past decade, cattle and other animals have been dying tragically after being hit by goods trains on Adani’s railway line. This railway line reaches Adipur through areas like Wadala, Bhadreshwar, Pavadiyar, Hatdi, Bhuwad, Kukdasar, Kovai, Kumbhariya and Vawar.

Under the leadership of ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ convenor Sanjay Bapat, leaders of the local Maldhari community, villagers and cattle herders from nearby farms arrived to inspect the railway track. He observed that no fencing has been installed along the track for safety, due to which animals easily come onto the railway line. Evidence and remains found on the spot confirmed that animals stray onto the tracks and die in accidents. Expressing his anger, Sanjay Bapat, convenor of ‘Azad Hind Fauj’, said that no matter how many religious or social events the Adani company shows off, the reality is that for years this railway line has been creating a terrible situation – which is actually working like a slaughterhouse. Such carelessness towards the welfare of voiceless animals and pastures cannot be tolerated. **Key attendees:**
Sultan Manek (President of Bhadreshwar Maldhari community), Yuvrajsingh Jadeja (Bhadreshwar), Hira Deva Maheshwari, Govind Maheshwari (Wadala), Govind Gadhvi (Vawar), Arjun Savraj Bhala, Gopal Punshi Gadhvi (Wadala), Jaydevsingh Pathubha Sodha and Karim Sumra were present. Along with them, a large number of *Maldhari* (cattle herders) from nearby villages and local ‘Wadi’ (farms/settlement) areas also joined them.

**Main demands:**
1. Strong security fencing (mesh) should be immediately installed on both sides of the entire Adani Railway line from Wadala to Adipur.

2. To ensure safe movement of cattle and villagers, railway overbridges or cattle underpasses should be built at important locations.

3. Pasture land (*Gauchar*) and areas for grazing animals should be kept open and safe.

4. In areas where there is high movement of cattle, the speed of goods trains should be limited. Final ultimatum and warning to Adani administration:
Sanjay Bapte has given a stern warning to the Adani Railway Administration that if no decision is taken or no permanent measures are taken by October 23, 2026, then all the *Maldharis* (cattle herders) from Goiras to Adipur will gather near the railway crossing. They will hold a final meeting to plan the next phase of their movement and take decisive steps.

Additionally, if any cattle is killed in an accident, a legal claim will be filed for compensation for the animals. For this, ‘Azad Hind Fauj’ is in the process of appointing a special ‘legal panel’.
