BJP’s Vahan Yatra Politics in Gujarat

BJP’s Tiranga Yatra against Congress’ Nyay Yatra (Google translation from Gujarati, language may be wrong)

13 September 2024

By Dilip Patel

Religious pilgrimages for the people of India are centuries old. But Mahatma Gandhi started the political padayatra or vahan yatra. He was the first person to march in South Africa against the exploitation of Indian people inside the mines. The journey challenged the authority of England and decisions had to be taken. Gandhiji’s second padayatra was Dandi Yatra. Which overthrew the power of the British. However, the real padayatra was done by Rahul Gandhi from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.

BJP never does padayatra, it always does vahan yatra. It has luxurious facilities.

Congress started ‘Nyay Yatra’ from Morbi in Saurashtra from 9 August 2024. A day after this, Gujarat BJP took out Tiranga Yatra. Congress party used to give protest programs against BJP’s programs. But for the first time, BJP has to present its worn-out programs in front of Congress’s program. Those who do not believe from the heart.

In fact, the national flag has not been hoisted at the head office of BJP’s parent organization RSS for 51 years. Where programs are organized in gardens or open spaces on Sangh Diwas, the national flag is not hoisted there. No patriotic tricolor is seen anywhere.

In fact, this is the politics of BJP and Congress.

For 24 years, when people take out yatras or protests on their issues, BJP governments have been lathi-charging them. People are not allowed to travel. BJP police rejects permission to organize more than 700 yatras, dharnas or demonstrations every year. And political agenda is allowed. Even Jagannath temple yatra was not allowed for one year. It is absolutely true that 600 Jagannath Rath Yatras and 1500 Ganpati Yatras and Mataji Yatras are allowed in Gujarat. However, it is mandatory to put photos of BJP leaders in it.

The purpose of both the yatras was to reduce the growing popularity of the Congress after the Lok Sabha elections and the local panchayat elections in Gujarat.

Elections have not been held in 75 municipalities, 17 taluka panchayats, 2 district panchayats, 7 thousand gram panchayats of the state.

According to the Jhaveri Commission report, the population of the OBC community is 52 percent in villages and 46.43 percent in cities.

OBC reserved seats – increased from 105 to 229 in district panchayats, from 506 in 248 taluka panchayats, from 12 thousand 750 to 25 thousand 347 seats in the total 14 thousand 592 gram panchayats of the state and in municipalities.

The Tiranga Yatra is an attempt to awaken nationalism against the Congress’s journey to get justice to the people.

The government has planned to organize a parade especially in four metros as well as a Tiranga Yatra, a Tiranga Selfie, a Tiranga competition, besides special tribal dances and Garba tableaus of Saurashtra.

There were 2200 organizations associated with BJP in the Tiranga Yatra.

Tricolours were distributed in 14 thousand villages and tricolour yatras were taken out. 50 lakh tricolours were distributed. Which was prepared by BJP. The cost of which was going to be Rs. 100 crores.

The colour of the tricolour was applied to every house and business place.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, J. P. Nadda and C. R. Patil were present in Rajkot and Surat on 10 and 11 August. Tiranga Yatra will be organised in Vadodara and Ahmedabad on 12 and 13 August.”

Apart from Raas-Garba, tableau of tribal dances, there will be parades and bands of police, paramilitary forces. Tricolour competitions were organised in schools and prizes were given. Behind which a huge expenditure of Rs. 2 thousand crores is estimated.

Congress did not have money to travel.

Congress claims that BJP had to take out the tricolour yatra in protest against Nyay Yatra.

Both the parties had to take their ideology to the society. BJP took out Tiranga Yatra to divert the issue, so that people do not get too angry against the government.

BJP’s Yatra and political benefits

1987 Mazdoor Nyay Yatra – Shramik Nyay Yatra was taken out to increase the rate of labor.

1989 Lok Shakti Yatra – Pre-election Yatra to awaken the power of citizens.

1990 Ram Rath Yatra – Lal Krishna Advani started Ram Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya.

1991 Ekta Yatra – Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.

2002 Gujarat Gaurav Yatra – In 2002 BJP could not win the assembly elections. So communal riots took place and won 117 seats.

2003 Wuranjali Yatra – Shyamji Krishna Verma Yatra was elected to the Lok Sabha.

2010 Gujarat Swarnim Yatra – It was done on the completion of 60 years of Tatra Gujarat.
2011- Jan Chetna Yatra – In November, Jan Chetna Yatra projecting Advani turned into a meeting at 25 places in Gujarat.
2011 – Kamal Sandesh Yatra – In April, a yatra was taken out in Gujarat against the Congress government at the center.
2012 – Kishan Hita Yatra – In April, a yatra was taken out in the entire state to show the good work done by the government for the farmers.
2012 Swami Vivekananda Yuva Yatra – Before the assembly elections, the yatra was taken out to show development and gained power.
2023 – Sardar Lokhand Yatra – BJP took out a yatra to collect iron from all over the country to make the statue of Sardar Patel.
2017 – Adivasi Gaurav Yatra – Before the elections, Adivasi Gaurav Yatra was taken out from Ambaji to Umargam.
2018 – Sardar Ekta Yatra – Before the Lok Sabha elections

First, former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s failed Ekta Yatra in October. Modi’s program had to be stopped as people did not come.

2021 – Vande Gujarat Yatra – Rupani took out Vande Gujarat Yatra. He was expelled.

2022- Gujarat Gaurav Yatra – Bhupendra Patel took out Gujarat Vikas Yatra for development work. Amit Shah started from Unai. Behind which Rs. 30 crore is estimated to be spent.

2024 – Van Setu Chetna Yatra – Yatra covering 3 lakh families in 51 tribal talukas of 13 districts was organized in January.

2024 – Jan Ashirwad Yatra – Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Lok Sabha elections

During the 2012 assembly elections, when Keshubhai Patel blew the bugle against Modi by forming ‘Maha Gujarat Janata Party’, BJP took out Vivekananda Yuva Vikas Yatra in September.

The pre-election pilgrimage covers a distance of about 6,000 km across Gujarat. It is estimated that on an average 50 lakh people join.

Thousands of Yatras are conducted in villages, cities, metropolises. For the last fifteen years, the ruling BJP in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMPA) has been successful in deceiving people by taking out various types of Yatras. There is no account of such Yatras. But if only 250 cities are considered, then it can be estimated how many Yatras they must have done in 20 years.

The claims of development in Vande Gujarat Yatra are far from reality

Travel and meeting expenses

In 24 years, the public has given Rs. 50 lakh crore tax to the government. 10 lakh per person, 50 lakh per family was spent but there is no development anywhere. So the Yatra will have to be done.

82 Vikas Raths in Krishi Rath Yatra, 40 lakhs were spent in making one Rath. This has been going on for 24 years. There will be 2500 events – 50 lakh people behind one yatra, 3 lakh workers, on an average Rs. 33 crores wasted.

When Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he did many yatras at government expense. Billions of rupees were spent. During his 12 years as Chief Minister, he did 26 yatras and 1200 public programs. If you want to take out one program and one yatra, then Rs. 10 lakh to Rs. 5 crores have been spent. Modi has spent so much from the public’s tax. In which BJP’s own 6 election yatras were done at its expense.

BJP has always benefited a lot from yatras. There were 5 yatras during Modi’s time which were opposed by the people. This yatra of BJP was not allowed to enter inside many villages. Chairs were raised against Amit Shah. Amit Shah had to cancel many meetings.

After Narendra Modi became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, his yatras benefited his personal image as well as BJP. After the violence in Gujarat in September 2002, Narendra Modi started a procession from Phagvel before the assembly elections.

After this, he went on a 51-hour fast in April 2005 demanding the upgradation of the Narmada project.

Modi was competing with Keshubhai Patel’s supporters in BJP. Then before the 2007 elections, from 2005 to 2007, Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana, Sagarkhedu Yojana for fishermen and schemes for women were run. BJP got a big benefit from this in the elections.

Every year, huge meetings of Krishi Yatra and Garib Kalyan Melas were held. The number of people attending this rally or meeting is 24 thousand. Issuing cheques for government schemes is the job of officials or government employees. But Modi and BJP leaders do that work by organizing expensive programs. Crores of rupees have been used for this.

Admission in schools is already done. The names of the students have already been decided. But, for the last 20 years, public money has been looted by organizing school entrance festivals. Actually, the government should have got information about what is not happening in the school by giving admission to officials and elected people. That too has stopped.

Movement
Liberalism, which started in 1991, became liberalism and pluralism by 1999. Now capitalism and authoritarianism have started. In which such yatras are taken out to mislead the people.

From 1947 to 1974, new laws, institutions were made and there were three Prime Ministers and one party. Whereas from 1974 to 1999, there were 13 tenures of 10 Prime Ministers, 7 parties and 14 movements.

From 1999 to 2024, there was stability of Congress and BJP. BJP combined liberalism with nationalism, capitalism, industrialism and Hindu pluralism. Whereas Congress is firm on liberalism as well as social justice. BJP has changed its ideology, Congress has maintained its original ideology.

There is talk of social justice all over the world. Which Congress is taking forward. There is no social justice in the BJP of 2001. There is religious fanaticism and capitalism. There is an anti-poor and anti-farmer attitude. The government is with the industrialists. Attack on the rights of common people.

Congress is raising issues related to social justice like accidents, corruption, unemployment in Gujarat. Which is getting the support of the lower middle class and low-income social groups, it talks about development with justice for the poor and the middle class.

Development has to be taken forward with social justice. That is why they took out Yaya Yatra.

Congress came up with social justice issues like incidents of accidents, corruption, government jobs, examination loss of farmers etc. in the state to counter the growth of Hindu majoritarianism. Surat Tax in Gujarat

People did not get justice in many cases including the Jorhat accident, Morbi hanging pool accident, Rajkot fire, Harni boat accident.

The BJP had organised the Tiranga Yatra with nationalism along with development. Pilgrimage is not a material issue but an emotional issue, everyone is connected to nationalism. Such a programme is a combination of Hindutva with development and nationalism.

But there were nationalists in the Congress’s Nyay Yatra.

In 2002 industrialists have been brought to Gujarat. From 2007 to 2012, Garib Melas were organised to boost the purchasing power of the middle class. Hence purchasing power increased and production increased. Income has increased on paper since 2014, but purchasing power has reduced due to inflation. Savings of the middle class have reduced. Fixed term deposits in banks have declined.

People feel that there is no government for the common people at the Centre. The middle class, which is the main vote bank of the BJP, is unhappy. Farmers are upset with social welfare schemes that provide free foodgrains to the poor. The purchasing power of the poor has decreased.

Increase in the number of educational institutions due to which proper education is not being provided. In such a situation, where the number of educated unemployed has increased, this was BJP’s ploy to keep the voters with it by instilling the spirit of Hindutva nationalism along with development.

Attempts are being made to divert people’s attention. BJP is seeing the ground slipping from under its feet. BJP fears that Congress has abandoned the problem of the ground.

Politics of Yatra or Travel of Politics? Lok-Jang Yatra, Strategy of Lok Sabha 2024

Political leaders and parties have been doing padayatras or varaath yatras at various times. Leaders do yatras or road shows. This program is done to reach out to the people by interacting with the gathering, crowd, audience.

According to simple politics, the strategy of padayatra can be successful. Strategy has to be made keeping in mind the local issues. It has become necessary for political parties to travel to run election campaigns successfully. Every step of the yatra is watched with great interest.

The state really needs a new vision and direction. Despite good work, it is lagging behind in socio-economic parameters. It is very difficult to reach any conclusion about what impact this padayatra will have on state politics or national politics. Many agencies now prepare political strategies in the country. Campaigning through controversies has dominated political parties.

Political leaders are ambitious. They believe that people prefer to go through difficulties rather than the established ones. Forgetting comfort, one adopts the difficult path of hiking. It helps leaders to connect and interact directly with the people. Even in this era of social media and digital connectivity, people have to meet face to face. People have a lasting impact on both. Marches will continue and Shakti Marches will keep happening.

Lok Sabha elections will be held in April or May 2024 with EVM voting only. Therefore, BJP is confident of victory. However, the good work done by the Modi government for the people of the BJP-ruled state of Gujarat in 10 years has led to 26 Lok Sabha seats in 33 districts.

A campaign of Jan Samarthan Yatra has been started from public relations to missed calls and joining BJP. 26 chariots have been dispatched for 26 Lok Sabha seats. Which will go among the public and promote the work of the central government in 9 years.

Public relations are being strengthened. From 24 June 2023, Gujarat State President CR Patel launched 26 Lok Sabha Raths. For seven days from June 24, the Lok Sabha Rath toured all 182 assembly constituencies of 26 Lok Sabhas. Templates of Government of India schemes were also kept.

A strategy for door-to-door contact was made. 51,931 workers were in the field to contact thousands of BJP workers in that area.

Rajdharma Yatra
The word travel with religion. Politicians have taken advantage of this.

Rahul Gandhi’s first Bharat Jodo Yatra was from south to north, while the second journey will be from west to east.

7 September 2022 Kanyakumari to 30 January 2023 Srinagar was the first phase of Rahul Gandhi’s padyatra. From Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Rahul Gandhi walked 3,970 km in 136 days. It included 12 states and two union territories. Rahul Gandhi’s followers included top leaders of his party as well as people from various walks of life including Bollywood actors. During this journey, Rahul Gandhi’s image among the public changed completely.

Rahul Gandhi reached Kashmir via Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab.

In 2023, from August 15 or October 2, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is once again embarking on ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. In this second phase of his padyatra, which started from Gujarat, he is going to padyatra to the northeastern state of Meghalaya. Rahul Gandhi’s 5-month Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir was the longest in recent years.

The BJP ideology has a strong cadre base. Congress does not know how to deal with it. That is why Rahul Gandhi sometimes resorts to secularism and sometimes soft Hindutva.

In 1982, Telugu Desam leader and film star N. T. Rama Rao built a 35 thousand kilometer Chaitanya Ratham by making a Chevrolet car.

Socialist leader Chandrashekhar’s padayatra from Kanyakumari to Rajghat was completed from 6 January 1983 to 25 June 1983.

In 1975, Indira Gandhi imposed internal emergency on the country

.

Travelled over 4200 km in 5 months talking about drinking water, primary education, nutritious food and welfare of Scheduled Castes/Tribes. This was not political. This is a different page of ideological politics.

In 1987 Sunil Dutt travelled 2,000 km in 78 days. Violent terrorism was at its peak in Punjab.

In September-October 1990, BJP leader LK Advani’s Ram Janmabhoomi Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya with vigorous publicity was the first. This yatra is of national politics.

This was in the midst of Mandal-Kamandal conflict. Due to which BJP got support in support of Ram temple at Shri Ram Janmabhoomi place. Later it became a permanent issue. The yatra got public support. The Rath Yatra was stopped midway. As a result, BJP withdrew support from the National Front government. V.P. Singh government fell. Chandrashekhar became the next Prime Minister of the country with the support of Congress.

In 1991-92, BJP president Murli Manohar Joshi took out a Rashtriya Ekta Yatra from Kanyakumari to Srinagar. The tricolour was hoisted on Republic Day.

Before the 2003 elections in Andhra Pradesh, opposition leader YS Rajashekar Reddy took out a 1500 km long ‘Praja Sankalpa Yatra’ for 3 months. He walked and joined the rural people or farmers. As a result, he became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 2004. YS Rajashekar Reddy’s padayatra defeated Chandrababu Naidu in 2004 and then again in 2009.

Chandrababu Naidu

In 2013, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu adopted Reddy’s yatra rana strategy. Naidu went on a 208-day 2,800 km yatra called Vasthuna Mikosam (I am coming for you). The yatra regained Chandrababu Naidu’s grip on state politics. In 2014, Naidu went public and his party came to power in the assembly. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi led by Chandrasekhar Rao separated Telangana from Andhra Pradesh and merged it as a new state.

Digvijay Singh

2017 Senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh traveled 3,300 km along the Narmada river. Digvijay described the parikrama as completely non-political and said that it is religious and spiritual. But the 6-month journey revealed a comprehensive public relations program. Later in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, Congress defeated BJP. Kamal Nath became the Chief Minister. But later Jyotiraditya Scindia’s coup brought BJP to power. This yatra revived the Congress in the state and brought it to power.

From 6 November 2017 to 9 January 2019, the YSR Congress Party marched on foot in 125 assembly constituencies in 13 districts of the state in 430 days with the slogan “Raavali Jagan, Kaavali Jagan” (Jagan must come. We want Jagan).

Elections are due in Telangana at the end of 2023. Yatras are also being held there. Prashant Kishore is making the strategy for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in a professional manner.

In 2023, Prashant Kishore took out the Jan Suraj Padayatra in Bihar.

Even today people remember Baba Amte and the Yatra.

On 2 January 2023, the BJP took out a Sushasan Yatra in every state.

Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra

Rahul Gandhi’s Padayatra of Bharat Jodo Congress in 2022 was a successful journey. The popular Bharat Jodo Yatra is on its 37th day, print and TV news is not visible.

Many successful Yatras of Gujarat BJP took place. In which Jan Chetna Yatra, Kamal Yatra, Kisan Yatra, Sardar Yatra, Vivekanand Yatra, Gaurav Yatra are taken out by BJP during the days of elections. BJP has done such Yatras in 20 years from 2002 to 2022.

Amit Shah’s arrogance broke and arrogance was removed in the 2022 Gujarat Gaurav Yatra. Home Minister Amit Shah held a rally in Dhandhuka. The state BJP was ordered to keep 35 thousand people present. There were barely 6 thousand people. Out of these, 3 thousand were followers of Mahant. In this way Amit Shah’s rally yatra was unsuccessful.

In 2022, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took out Gujarat Vikas Yatra to take the development work to the public. Chief Minister- 20 years Vande Gujarat Vikas Yatra- Reality- 3 governments of last 8 years were not of BJP.

In 2021, Rupani traveled to Gujarat by Vande. And BJP dismissed him. Now the public will put BJP in front. Then there were 80 chariots. If the work is done then there is no need to travel. (Google translation from Gujarati, there might be a language mistake)
