The BSNL employees’ union said in a letter to the company’s chairman that VRS was responsible for the company’s financial condition. The financial condition of the company has deteriorated since the scheme was implemented. Not only that, due to lack of staff, proper work has not been done in many places. So the faults in the line and the network faults have increased. The union also said 13 contract workers had allegedly committed suicide over the past 14 months due to non-payment of wages. However, the workers are not paid on the due date.
An order has recently been issued by the company asking the chief general managers to reduce costs and stop the practice of hiring work from contract workers. The chairman of the company wants a clear road map to be drawn in each circle to eliminate such workers. According to the general secretary of the BSNL employees’ union, about 30,000 contract workers have been sent home. Now this new order will force contract workers to go home.
