Due to excess rainfall in Gujarat, peanut oil has increased aflatoxin toxin

Gandhinagar, 8 January 2020
A poison called aflatoxin from Aspergillus fungus is found in peanuts, flour, cumin, corn, wheat, millet, rice. The most dangerous poison in peanuts has been found in Gujarat, India, in the year 2020-21. Those who are at risk of liver, cancer and stops developing children.
Despite such a dangerous result, the Office of the Food Commissioner of Gujarat Health Department does not investigate this, does not detect this toxic substance in oil mills or oil. People are eating it unknowingly.

Spit the peanut
The seeds are molded. Want to spit peanuts by eating in the mouth. Bitter rash. It tastes strange. The color changes.

130 cr kg of oil
The Department of Agriculture had estimated that in 2020, 54.65 lakh tonnes of groundnut will be grown in Gujarat with 2637 kg per hectare production. Shows an increase of 21 percent over the previous year. In 2019, it was targeted to produce 45.03 lakh tonnes of peanuts with an output of 2674 kg per hectare. Peanut seeds extract 653 kg of oil per hectare at a rate of 50%. Groundnut is grown on 15-20 lakh hectares. 100 to 130 crore kg of groundnut oil is produced in Saurastra. Which is the highest in entire India.

Excess rain increased the fungus
Groundnut cultivation in the state increased by 33 percent to 20.73 lakh hectares. But due to heavy rains peanut production has increased from 34 to 38 lakh tonnes. Also, a toxin called aflatoxin from Aspergillus fungus has been observed this time due to excess rainfall. Most oilmillars do not extract toxins from their peanut seeds. The people of Gujarat are currently consuming this oil.

Statement by the Head of the Peanut Research Institute
DGR of All India Groundnut Research Center came to Junagadh University. Dr. Radhakrishnan had presented scientific findings on the element called aflatoxin found in peanut during the rainy season. Which was very shocking.

Research at Junagadh University
Scientists of Junagadh Agricultural University have done some research in this regard. According to its scientists there are 7 types of Aspergillus. Flavus fungi and the aflatoxin crop produced by it do not fetch good prices. So the income of the farmers decreases.

Dangerous disease
This causes liver cancer. Inflammation of the liver. The blood accumulates. Digestion power slows down. Reduces the ability to digest food and lose weight. Excessive infection can kill a person in 72 hours. Researchers from Junagadh Agricultural University believe. They are searching to this extent in Saurashtra peanuts and what can be done to eliminate them.

What quantity
It is safe up to 20 ppb for humans and 50 ppb for animals. 20 parts per milligram are safe. But when it grows, there are many types of diseases. 100 ppb inhibits the growth of young children. 200 to 400 ppb is the cause of Vade Longo’s disease. Over 400 ppb causes liver cancer.
30 is allowed in India, 20 in the US, 1 in France, 4 grams per kg of peanuts in Europe. In China it is 10 grams and in Italy it is 5 grams per kilogram.
Storage depends on how – only when there is 5 to 7 percent humidity.

Industry threat
Industries are at risk in peanuts, peanut seeds, peanut oil, peanut dung, grains, seeds, trees, nuts and dehydrated fruits. Because it can be contaminated with toxic fungi, with the formation of mycotoxins depending on storage conditions. Their toxicity is high. Cereals or foods that contain aflatoxin can cause death in humans.

Food packs
By frequent intake of pet foods, dogs are more likely to develop liver disease. Anomalies in development arise in the offspring of humans. The Diamond Company had to withdraw corn flour and 19 product items due to assurances. Market experts believe that such infected grains or peanuts cannot be sold abroad. But in Gujarat it is used to make oil.

What do Junagadh scientists
According to the Junagadh Botanical Department, 80 percent of Saurashtra’s peanuts are used to make oil. 10 percent of peanuts are eaten as food. The amount of aflatoxin increases due to fungi when it rains less or when it rains more. This crop I can come at any time. This deteriorates the quality of oil. Immunity decreases in humans and animals.

Therefore, they suffer from disease.
Main Oilseeds Research Station at Junagadh Agricultural University Junagadh, Gujarat. The center also contributes the groundnut varieties and castor varieties / hybrids for National level research programme and it is one of the centre for the All India Coordinated Research Projects on Groundnut, Castor, National Seed Project, RKVY Seed Project and aflatoxin project.

Research projects
Aflatoxin and its management in groundnut at saurashtra region of Gujarat at oilseed, from 2014. J-11 verity developed in 1964, Aflatoxin resistance. Mandates of research : To develop disease, pest, drought and aflatoxin resistant groundnut varieties with good export potential. Preparation of database of aflatoxin in groundnut for Saurashtra region.

Disease resistant varieties
There are varieties of peanuts that can counteract aflatoxin disease. Which includes J11, S230, Chitra, GG11, Koyna and KTG-19A.

Plant identification
Sowing of infected seeds of aflatoxin does not germinate its seeds. Plants appear underdeveloped. Stems small leaves and diarrhea. Flowers do not sit. The disease is known as aflatoxin.
Spraying 0.5 percent hydrogen peroxide on peanuts reduces the amount of aflatoxin from 1000 ppb to 25 ppb.

One peanut spoils 10,000
A spoiled grain-peanut seed containing aflatoxin spoils 10 thousand seeds. Therefore the bad rash should be separated. Who is not doing mill oil.

Way to store
Dry the peanuts until the humidity is 5 to 8%. Keep peanuts in a clean, ventilated, plastic or linen bag. This aflatoxin disease is more prevalent when farmers keep peanuts in warehouses. Peanuts can be sprayed with 5 percent propionic acid, sorbic acid, chlorothenyl, sodium bisulfite.
Remedy 1
Can hang from deep fields and hot ground. Cellophane, pesticide use in crops. Applying 500 grams per hectare of neem meal and castor food reduces the disease. Manure, cow urine and its derivatives may be used. Trichoderma may be used.
Remedy 2
Heating oil with white clay reduces the amount of aflatoxin from 800 ppb to 5 ppb. Aflatoxin is destroyed up to 100 percent by keeping the oil in the sun for 15 to 30 minutes. 16 to 33 percent of aflatoxins are destroyed by dung washing. Ammoni from peanut butter. Passing air for 15 to 30 minutes removes up to 95% of aflatoxin. Use of the right filter removes it.
The chickens are dead
Aflatoxin is a frequent problem in the world. In Scotland, 10 million chickens died suddenly in 1960 after being fed aflatoxin infected peanuts. Highly toxic and carcinogenic. Aflatoxins were discovered in 1960 by a British research team. Many countries around the world have reported deaths due to this.(translated from Gujarati)
