Gandhinagar, 23 March 2021
On March 23, 2021, Congress MLAs in writing to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who is in-charge of the Home Department, exposed the BJP’s nexus with the mineral mafia by asking questions in the Legislative Assembly.
The Congress party has issued a detailed list of questions on why illegal mining operations, fines and police cases have not been registered despite the mineral mafia being caught stealing.
A fine of Rs 610 crore was imposed in 14002 cases of illegal mining in the state in two years. But these 14 thousand mafias paid a fine of only Rs 181 crore. Which is only 30 percent. The mafia is challenging BJP leaders by not paying 70 per cent fine. It is clear that BJP leaders support him.
To curb illegal mining activity, raids or investigations are carried out on paper only.
Rupani and his assistant minister Pradeep Jajeda have allowed police complaints against only 12 of the 14,000 mineral mafias.
Although 14,000 mineral mafias have not paid the fine, criminal proceedings are to be initiated under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act as well as the Gujarat Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transport and Storage) Rules 2017. This amendment was made with strict provision at the time of Rupani’s government. They are the violators.
It is estimated that only 1 percent of those who steal steal. 99 percent theft is not caught. In Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar, Rs 5,000 crore worth of mineral has been stolen. Of which there is no note. According to this, minerals worth Rs 6,000 crore are being stolen due to political nexus. The natural resources of the citizens of Gujarat are being looted under the BJP rule.
