In the Wankaner municipality of Morbi, Gujarat, the BJP has lost power in the rebellion despite having a majority. Independent member Jayashree Sejpal has been elected by the rebels, the president of the Wankaner municipality.
From the local level, the names of the president and the vice-president were forwarded to BJP state chief Chandrakant Patil. But after the BJP’s parliamentary board rejected the name, local BJP workers and leaders revolted against Patil. There was resentment in the BJP.
The 15 elected members of the BJP submitted their resignations to the Vankaner BJP president. BJP’s 24 out of 28 are decent. But as 15 members resented the resentment, an independent candidate has been elected to the post of chief.
The BJP has been in power in Wankaner for the last 25 years. It is the BJP’s turn to lose power due to civil war. Independents have been excluded due to internal divisions.
On the one hand, State President Chandrakant Patil and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani are saying that there is no division and factionalism in the BJP. But the party lost due to Morbi split in BJP.
