The people of Gujarat pay the highest amount to the government in GST on petroleum products. In the last five years, the government has paid Rs 57,000 crore for these products. 15,000 crore revenue this year includes petrol, diesel, CNG and PNG.
The state has a 17 percent value-added tax on petrol and diesel, plus a four percent cess on both fuels. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of One Tax One Nation said, but his party’s government is doing double taxation in Gujarat. People are paying more than 25 types of taxes, and are being crushed by inflation.
The government has received VAT revenue of Rs 15,517 crore on petrol in five years. The government has received Rs 34937 crore in diesel. 1784 crores in CNG and 4130 crores in PNG. Thus, the government has collected a total of Rs 56,702 crore in five years.
Gujarat has the highest number of vehicles in the country
Gujarat ranks first in the country in terms of vehicle registration. Second, Tamil Nadu has 445 vehicles per 1000 population. While there are 335 vehicles from Karnataka, Maharashtra and 335 Uttar Pradesh with 372 vehicles. The number of vehicles in Gujarat has increased by 135 percent in the last ten years. The number of bikes and cars has also increased. There are 2.5 million transport vehicles in Gujarat. The number of non-transport vehicles has also gone up to 2.07 crore. There are more than 35 lakh cars and 1.45 crore two-wheelers.
According to data from the state’s Department of Vehicle Transactions, 2.35 crore vehicles are plying on the roads of Gujarat. This means that one out of every three people owns a vehicle. Gujarat had only 8132 two-wheelers in 1961 which has increased to 1.50 crores today. In 1980, Gujarat had only 52817 registered cars. Today, the number of cars has crossed 3.5 million.
In 2018, 7,914 people died in 18,745 vehicle accidents, of which bad roads were to blame. The government collects taxes but does not provide good roads, so people die more.
