Kerala, 28,000 people were bitten by cats in a month

Dogs roaming the streets are usually violent and bite people. People in all states of India are suffering from stray dogs.
However, cats have become a problem for the people of Kerala. The past few years have seen an increase in cases of bites from cats rather than dogs. In January alone, 28,000 people were bitten by cats.
The government itself has given this figure in response to a petition filed under RTI. According to the government’s health ministry, there has been an increase in the number of people seeking treatment for dog bites in the past few years. In January, 20,000 cases of dog bites and 28,000 cases of cat bites were reported.
The animal welfare body of the state had sought information. According to the data, 1.60 lakh cases of cat bites were reported in 2016 and the number increased to 2.20 lakh in 2020. Thus, there has been a 128 percent increase in the incidence of cat bites in five years. According to government data, there were 1.25 lakh cases of dog bites in 2016 and 1.6 lakh such cases in 2020. Last year, five people died of rabies.
