Lost the Metropolitan Municipality, District Panchayat, 6 Taluka Panchayats, and Municipalities
Ahmedabad, May 2, 2026
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gopal Italia: The party’s performance in the Taluka Panchayats within Junagadh district did not meet expectations. The AAP managed to secure the Visavadar and Bhesan Taluka Panchayats.
In the Junagadh Taluka Panchayat, both parties secured an equal number of seats. In the remaining 5 Taluka Panchayats, the BJP has come to power.
The Metropolitan Municipality and the District Panchayat have slipped out of the Aam Aadmi Party’s grasp. With the exception of Visavadar, the Aam Aadmi Party holds no presence in the other 3 municipalities.
Gopal Italia’s Responsibility
For the 2026 Local Self-Government Elections, the responsibility for the Aam Aadmi Party’s election campaign in Junagadh district rested with Gopal Italia. Typically, a local MLA or a regional leader is appointed as the in-charge for such campaigns. During the 2026 elections, Visavadar MLA Gopal Italia was the most prominent face of the party in Gujarat and served as the campaign in-charge for the Visavadar-Junagadh region. Consequently, he was, in effect, the person in charge of the district’s overall election strategy.
