Cherry fruit cultivation – done through seed or root cutting. Cherry plants can be planted mainly through grafting method. Cold treatment is usually required for seed germination. Cherry seeds are usually extracted from fully ripe fruit.
Britshore Mehta along with Puttan Guddu of Kutumba block in Aurangabad district decided to cultivate cherry in Chilki Beigha itself. Last year, 13 katthas i.e. less than a bigha planted cherries on the ground. It earned about four lakh rupees. He then planted cherries in the 2 bigha field.
Scientists say that there is a lot of potential for cherry cultivation in Bihar.
Cherry is cultivated most in the world in Europe and Asia, America, Turkey etc. countries. Whereas in India, it is cultivated in North Eastern states and Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir, Uttarakhand etc. Cherries are considered good fruits for health. It is a sour-sweet kinky fruit. It contains plenty of nutrients, such as vitamin 6, vitamin A, niacin, thiamine, riboflavin, potassium, manganese, copper, iron and phosphorus are found in abundant amounts. Its fruit contains a high amount of antioxidant, which is considered more good for health.
