Against open loot, paper leaks and examination scams in the name of education
‘Chhatra-Gunj’ will be held in Gujarat
Students’ voices will be given voice through press conferences in districts across the state on June 22-23.

Addressing a press conference held at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan today, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Amit Chavda said that there is a need to draw the attention of the entire Gujarat and the country on a very serious issue directly related to education, employment and the future of the youth. Today, the education system in the entire country has become a source of open plunder and lakhs of students and parents are facing its direct impact.
In the last few years, there have been repeated incidents of exam paper leaks in the country and Gujarat, due to which years of hard work of lakhs of students, financial sacrifices of parents and dreams of youth have been ruined. Cancellation of just one exam is not an administrative mistake, but is a proof of the failure of the entire exam system and the scam going on in it.
There were serious allegations of paper leak in the recently held NEET exam also. More than 22 lakh students across the country and more than 80 thousand students in Gujarat were preparing for this exam. NEET exam has been in controversies many times before. When papers are leaked again and again, the confidence of students and parents in the entire examination system is shaken.
In the last ten years of Modi government, about 89 incidents of paper leaks have come to light and 48 exams had to be retaken. Apart from NEET, there have been allegations of scams and irregularities in many exams including CBSE, SSC, NDA, Vyapam. However, no concrete and effective solution has been found by the government. Referring to the situation in Gujarat, Shri Amit Chavda said that papers of many recruitment examinations including Vinashchiwala Clerk, Junior Clerk, Head Clerk, Forest Guard were leaked, the examinations were canceled and lakhs of youth had to take to the streets to struggle. But, no strict action is being taken against the officials and system conducting the examinations. Students across the country are demanding the resignation of the Education Minister in the NEET paper leak case, but the Central Government and the Prime Minister have not taken any moral responsibility. Today millions of youth are worried about their future and the government does not seem to be sensitive to their pain. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has become the voice of questions, pain and anger of students, parents and youth across the country. He established direct communication with the students through the ‘Chhatra Goonj’ program held in Kota, Rajasthan and started a national debate on the examination system, education system and the future of the youth. If we look at the estimated expenses incurred by students for competitive exams like NEET, the preparation cost for NEET exam alone is around Rs 10 lakh. 1.32 lakh crore. If coaching classes, hostel, books, food and other expenses are added, then this figure is equal to the education budget of the country.
The total expenditure of students and parents on preparation for competitive and other important exams including NEET, JEE, UPSC, SSC, RRB in India is estimated to be around Rs 3.5 lakh crore, which is more than the annual education budget of the Central Government. This figure shows how much financial investment the families of the country make for education and future. There have been incidents of suicide of students due to exam related stress in different parts of the country and also in Gujarat, which is a matter of great concern.
Under the leadership and guidance of Shri Rahul Gandhi, the Congress Party will campaign across the state for necessary reforms in the education system, transparency in the examination system, strict action against paper leaks and recruitment scams and to stop open loot in the name of education. Congress will continue to fight for the future of youth and issues related to students.
On June 22 and 23, press conferences will be held at all the district headquarters of Gujarat, in which the questions, suggestions, complaints and concerns of the students regarding the education system will be discussed. Efforts will be made to raise the voice of students at the district level and reach it to the government.
This press conference organized at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan will be attended by Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee’s Media Convenor and Spokesperson Dr. Manish Doshi, Media Co-Convenor and Spokesperson Mr. Hemang Rawal, State General Secretary and Mayor of Ahmedabad.
